Do the Laws of Motion ALWAYS Apply?

Does the 3rd law of motion apply to laundry?

If I exert a force on the kids’ socks, will the kids simultaneously exert a force equal in magnitude and opposite in direction as me?

In other words:

If I put their clean socks in random places around the house, would they put their dirty socks in the laundry bin?

  1. I find the only time my children’s disgarded socks move is when I pick them up…and throw them at my kids. 😉

  2. I don’t know about that, but I can vouch that, if the body is my husband’s, a body at rest remains at rest throughout college football bowl season.

  3. Probably not.
